Bruce Wing

Meet Judy & Bruce

Judy Brunet and Bruce Wing have been  performing together since 2005, impressing their listeners with strong original material and intuitive playing styles that naturally compliment each other. Their first release, an acoustic album titled “Saying Hello Feeling Goodbye  arrived just in time for their performances at the Vancouver Island Music Festival in 2006 and earned Judy a nomination for Female Songwriter of the Year by the Vancouver Island Indendent Music Awards. The understated production testifies of the power of simplicity and captures the endearing quality of their acoustic performances. Their shared experiences, quirky humour and love for music inspired a romance as well, and the couple were married in 2007. Some of the songs of their latest release "This Heart This Season" are expressions of what it's like to find love later in life and how it feels to let go of the past.

Whether the genre is contemporary folk, rock, gospel or jazz, the lyrics are heartfelt expressions and the music is a stirring collaboration of composition and arrangement.  The couple also perform musical monologues, with playful slice-of-life content.

Judy Wing (Brunet)

Judy Wing has returned to the Comox Valley from the island community of Sointula where she was an enjoyable addition to many North Island fundraisers, coffee houses, festivals, and community events. Playing both acoustic guitar and piano, Judy brings a unique style and repertoire to the stage. Her warm vocals and expressive nuances  have made her a memorable acoustic performer who sings everything from folk to blues.
Born in Southern Alberta, and raised in Calgary, Judy enjoyed being a young television performer before moving to Vancouver Island with her parents. She's been making up songs for as long as she can remember, and gradually learned to articulate the more complicated landscapes of life, love and ambivalence. A love for harmony has always attracted her to choral singing, small ensembles, and duets with content ranging from the classical to the comedic. Judy is also a writer, and her short stories, plays and poetry are condensed into slice of life monologues that are evocative and witty. Her early musical influences included teen favorites Carole King, Carly Simon, and Christine McVie, however her inspirations are always found closer to home in fellow musicians, songwriters and performers.

Bruce Wing

When it comes to Bruce's interests, there are definately strings attached! Bruce has always been drawn to instruments with strings and is a self-taught musician playing guitar, mandolin, or electric bass. Although Bruce is originally from Nebraska, he has lived in Canada for most of his life and over the years has played in a variety of touring groups, studio recordings, commercial bands and jams. Bruce is well known among Vancouver Island music circles as a supportive sideman with an energizing percussive playing style and playful wit. Like his prairie roots, Bruce's approach to music is uncomplicated and neighborly- a grassroots way of meeting new folks, encouraging harmonious relationships, and inspiring new music at the same time.
