The 1st Tuesday Fundraising Event is an ongoing concert series that began in December of 2008 as a monthly fundraiser for the Comox Valley Food Bank Society. Each event featured a local artist who donated a performance to charity. Admission was a cash or non-perishable food donation.
In our search for a regular venue, we were very fortunate to have garnered the support and sponsorship of the Mex Pub in Courtenay. The Mex Pub has a history of showing support for live music in the valley, as well as the musicians who make it. In the first year we were able to raise several thousand dollars for the food bank, as well as many "banana boxes" of donated items.
At the beginning of 2010, we decided to include other charities in our fundraising efforts. Since then, the guest performer has been able to choose a local charity to receive the proceeds from the admission. In recognition of the on going needs of the foodbank, donations of non-perishable food donations are also appreciated.
With the help of our talented guests, and their generous supporters, we have raised money for many local charities including The Comox Valley Hospice Society, YANA, CV Boys and Girls Club, the Comox Valley Transition Society, Dawn to Dawn Society, Lilli House, Canadian Cancer Relay for Life, Parkinson's Society, MS Society, the BC SPCA, and the Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society.
